Submissions

Hibernaculum Publishing will be open to submissions on September 1st and close October 13th 2026. You do not have to have an agent to submit your work. We are looking for anything that fits in the Science Fiction or Fantasy genres, because that is what we like to read. If it is tangentially weird or unusual, we will consider that as well. No Young Adult, Middle Grade, Horror, Erotica, or Children’s or Picture Books.

We prefer novels (40,000 to 110,000 words), but will consider novellas if they are compelling. No short stories.

Completed works only.

No AI generated works.

Why not AI? We have four reasons to exclude AI generated or assisted work:

  1. AI generators are resource intensive. Why use up the planet to make a mediocre book?

  2. Our publishing agreement with accepted authors prohibits the use of AI. Use of AI null and voids this agreement, so let’s not waste each other’s time.

  3. We don’t hate AI (great for drug discovery and scientific research), but the literature it generates is built off the backs of writers that actually put the effort into creating something. Let’s not devalue their work by cannibalising it.

  4. We want to see what you create. Your mind is a squishy collection of cells capable of building imaginary worlds, crafting heroes/heroines and villains, and delighting the reader. Even in their imperfect state, human ideas are so much more interesting than what AI can create.

‍Submission Guidelines

‍Please submit the first two chapters (or 5,000 words; whichever comes first) and a brief synopsis (no more than 500 words). Include these as attachments. Do not embed them in your email. In your submission email, let us know if your work is a standalone novel or part of a series. Also include a couple of sentences (not your life story) about yourself, so we understand your source of inspiration.

‍Submissions should be sent to submissions@hibernaculumpublishing.com by the deadline. If your work is accepted by another publisher during our 90–120-day review period, please let us know. Now the boring parts:

  • Files in either .doc, .docx, or .pdf format

  • 12-pt Times New Roman

  • Double line spacing

  • 1-inch margins

  • Do not indent manually

  • Number your pages

  • Put your name, email, and book title in the bottom margin of each page

  • Start each chapter on a new page

‍We are a small publisher with limited staff. Please wait at least 90 days for our response. We will either request the rest of your book or send a rejection. Emails requesting an update before the 90 days will go unanswered.

‍And lastly, because we are small, we can only take a couple of books each round. If you don’t get accepted by us this time, don’t be discouraged. Your book is a piece of art. Keep working on your craft.‍ We may work together yet.
